Carl Martin New Quattro
Posted by wilderr67 under effect pedals, guitar effect pedalsLeave a Comment
With classic guitar tone disappearing down the road of digital modeling amps and effects, Carl Martin is proud to introduce the Quattro… four of the most popular Carl Martin effects in one package!
Compressor: Compression is a very good effect for overall use, it smoothes out your uneven dynamics, increases sub tones which otherwise would stay too weak in the overall sound. It also gives more depth, body and sustain for a fuller sound. This is great for especially solos. Just set the level knob to match the desired solo level. For more compression turn the compress knob clockwise, and adjust your level to match the bypass level.
Overdrives: Drive 1 is the crunch channel, Drive 2 the high gain channel. To enter drive 1, press the drive switch and set the level to match the bypass level. The tone knob works like a high cut filter. Set the knob at full clockwise for high crisp tone or for warmer and rounder tone, turn the tone knob counter clockwise. To enter drive 2 leave the drive switch on and press the select switch. The level and tone knobs are the same on both channels.
Tremolo: The tremolo effect is a very useful vintage effect found on many old tube amp’s. The tremolo goes from light and easy to a mind-blowing chopping effect. The knob works clockwise for more effect and depth.
Echo: The echo effect is designed to emulate the old vintage tape echo units, with all that they had in low-fidelity noise and distortion. It has extremely musical and warm echo, so don’t expect any clean sterile digital delay here. To enter the echo mode press the echo switch and set the echo level on the echo knob. Turn clock wise for more effect. Turn the repeat knob clock wise for more repeats. The tone knob works like a filter with clear crisp echo’s in the full clock wise position and warmer vintage style echo when turned counter clockwise. The echo time is set on the tempo tap switch and it goes up to 1000 milliseconds. Please note that once disconnected from power, the echo time will revert to the shortest time.
Loop: The loop is a serial loop placed between the overdrives and tremolo, so it’s possible to add another of your favourite distortion boxes with the compressor and overdrive in front of it, and the tremolo and echo after it. It is also the right place to put in another modulation effect like a chorus, flanger or phaser. The loop has low impedance out and high impedance return.
The Quattro is not true bypass, however, the high quality output buffer circuitry ensures noise free operation with long cabling from unit to amplifier, even on large stages. Source: www.carlmartin.com

It is not very difficult to replicate the unique sound of Slash,. basically all you need is a Gibson Les Paul plugged into a Marshall tube amp. Slash’s most relevant equipment: Guitars:
I’m not going to list them all – they’re over 90! – but he mainly uses a Gibson Les Paul Standard, Gibson Les Paul Slash Signature Model (a Custom Shop Les Paul model with Slash image carved into top, cranberry finish and a coffin case that was produced in 1997 in a limited run of only 50!), BC Rich Mockingbird SL (the Slash Model), Gibson SG Double neck, Guild Crossroads Double Neck (designed by Slash) and a Travis Bean electric (for slide guitar). His acoustic guitars are mainly Guild Jumbo design guitars.
Most of his electric guitars have Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups which are
low output pickups.
Effects:
The only effects Slash uses are a Dunlop DCR-ISR Crybaby Rack, Dunlop Heil Talk Box, Boss DD-5 Digital Delay and a Boss GE-7 Equalizer (to boost his amplifier volume in the solos when playing live).
Slash uses Ernie Ball strings RPS 11 set and he likes to play with heavy picks (he favors the Jim Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm picks)

Gibson Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck

Gibson Guitar recently announced they’ve partnered with legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page to produce a limited-edition replica of Page’s iconic double-neck guitar. The guitar was created through a partnership with Page and the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tenn. and is based on the specifications of Page’s original ’71 Gibson EDS-1275 double-neck model that boasted a 12-string electric on top and a six-string electric on bottom.
Throughout Led Zeppelin’s golden years in the 70s, Page’s majestic double neck was a fixture of the band’s legendary live shows; just the sight of the iconic, distinctive SG Double Neck, slung around Page’s neck spellbound audiences and elicited their howling approval.
The replica took a little over a year to create with hands-on analysis throughout the process from Page himself. The discussion between Page and Gibson Guitar started back in 2004 when Gibson introduced his signature Les Paul Standard. Gibson revisited the idea again in 2005, following the overwhelming success of his Signature Les Paul, and the project began to evolve. The Gibson Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck is a precise duplicate of Page’s original EDS-1275 guitar. Gibson has made only 25 Limited Edition Aged Double Necks that replicate every detail of Page’s iconic guitar “ding for ding,” featuring 20-fret rosewood fingerboards on both necks, period-correct headstock style for 12-string with a Page profile neck, master volume and tone controls for each neck, a “master” three-position pickup selector switch, as well as a three-position toggle switch for engaging the pickups on either or both necks.
The replicas also feature a weathered Heritage Cherry finish that is unique to the new model and will be enhanced on the 25 Limited Edition Aged models with authentic custom aging by Gibson Custom. Each of the 25 Limited Edition Aged guitars will feature Page’s signature on the rear of the headstocks, plus a certificate of authenticity signed by Page, as well as, a specially designed Custom Shop case, the acclaimed two-DVD Led Zeppelin box set and a copy of a private interview with Page regarding the Double Neck. These 25 exact replicas will list for $33,500. Gibson has also produced 250 Vintage Original Spec Signature Double Necks that don’t feature the same aging or a signature on the headstock but will be accompanied by a standard certificate of authenticity which will retail for $10,000-$12,000. “Working with Jimmy Page has proven, once again, to be a wonderfully rewarding experience,” said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar. “We are thrilled to be able to offer fans the replica of his legendary double-neck guitar which will put his unique sound and style right at his fan’s fingertips.” Gibson’s Aged Limited Edition Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck specifications: Model: Aged Limited Edition Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck Article Source: http://www.guitarsite.com/news

Jamorama, Learn to play Guitar
Posted by wilderr67 under guitar player, learn to play guitar, pro guitar[2] Comments
I was talking to my friend Ben Edwards the other day, and we were talking about guitar lessons, and how learning is a lot harder than it looks. Ben told me about the developments him and the team have made at Jamorama, and told me I should have a look at it. I was impressed.
Ben and the team from Jamorama are already known in musical circles through their popular Learn to Play Guitar with Jamorama series of books for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced players. They have built on this already solid reputation and clientele and decided to develop the product further to make the learning process more fun and accelerate the rate of learning.
The team at Jamorama has been very busy and the result of this is a package that is even more comprehensive and exciting than before. In addition this, the Jamorama team have also developed two exclusive computer games to aid students in their learning of music. These games are:
These games are beneficial in developing skills in reading written sheet music and in being able to recognize notes by ear. These games make the monotony of learning to read music fun, and also enable students to develop their ear for transcribing their favorite songs from the radio. Both games are well presented, easy to follow, and are invaluable in developing the key skills necessary in being a better musician and getting results faster.
Two bonus e-books have also been added, and these cover how to tune your guitar, and techniques that will cut your learning time in half.
What has impressed me most of all is the motivation of the team at Jamorama to put out a good quality product that really does deliver on its promises. The team is committed to helping students learn the guitar using the best techniques that deliver real results.
So what you get is the Learn to Play Guitar with Jamorama 3 book package including 84 step by step lessons supported by audio and video, hundreds of lines of tabulature, the two bonus e-books and two exclusive computer games. If this isn’t enough, they also provide their customers with the opportunity for free e-mail consultations to deal with any specific problems students may have. This whole package is designed to make the learning process for guitar students as simple and effective as possible. And it’s really fun to use!
I believe this product really is at the top of the market for quality of information and value for money. I’m really excited about this newly developed package, and I’m sure you will be too.

Guitarless Guitarists Put On Airs
Posted by wilderr67 under guitar movies, rock musicLeave a Comment
From what I’ve heard so far this is one terrible movie, but some of the worst movies can turn out to be some of the funniest, if you find really bad to be funny. At the very least I’m sure its full of some great music. Below is a review by Chris Lee of the LA Times…enjoy…I think
It’s an appropriate enough tone setter for the loopy but humanistic film that opens Friday for one week at the Landmark Nuart Theater in West L.A.
Although “Nation” chronicles the U.S. Air Guitar Championships’ birth in 2003 — before then, it was a strictly noncompetitive, bedroom-mirror affair — the movie’s dramatic narrative coalesces around two contestants and their clash of passion, pride and imaginary six-strings. David “C-Diddy” Jung, winner of the East Coast semifinals, and his nemesis/runner-up, T–roque (birth name: Dan Crane), try to one-up each other in terms of stage presence and “airness” on a quest to capture for America the world air guitar championship title in Oulu, Finland.
“It’s the last pure art form,” says U.S. Air Guitar Championships co-founder Kriston Rucker, who also executive produced the film. “It’s something you can’t commercialize — because it’s invisible.”
The documentary won an audience award at the South by Southwest music festival, among other film-festival accolades. But its hard-rockin’ soundtrack and the energetic machinations of several dozen wannabe Eddie Van Halens provide a better reason to see “Air Guitar Nation”: Judas Priest’s “You Got Another Thing Comin’,” Boston’s “More Than a Feeling” and Mot–rhead’s “Ace of Spades” all get, um, aired out in the film.

In conjunction with Eric Clapton, DigiTech has helped recreate some of his most famous tones in the DigiTech Crossroads Artist Series pedal by applying their new Production Modeling technology. This revolutionary technology was designed to help reproduce the studio and live sounds and effects of an artist as heard on their recordings. This includes modeling the speaker cabinets, microphones with their placement, pre/post effects, and the recording engineer’s
magic all in one pedal.
The Crossroads Artist Series pedal was conceived in conjunction with Eric Clapton and his long-time guitar tech Lee Dickson. Crossroads models seven Clapton signature tones. From songs like “Badge” with its swirling rotary speaker, to “Layla” (Unplugged) with its intimate acoustic tone, and of course, “Sunshine of Your Love” which features Eric’s signature “woman tone”, Crossroads spans 30 years of Clapton culture and tone.
