Fender Telecaster ‘58 (psychedelic colors): was given to him by Jeff Beck. He played it with the Yardbirds, on Led Zeppelin I, the early tours (68-69), and on the studio version of Stairway.
Gibson J-200 (acoustic): used for the acoustic songs on Led Zeppelin I. Lent to Page by Big Jim Sulivan.
Fender 10-String 800 Pedal Steel: played on Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin III.
Gibson Les Paul ‘58: his main guitar. The original tuners have been replaced by gold-plated Grovers. Due to several neck modifications the serial # was lost.
Gibson ‘59 Les Paul: main guitar #2, given to page by Joe Walsh, from which was done the Jimmy Page signature Les Paul. The neck has been shaved to be like the ’58s neck. The bridge was rounded, so he can play any string with the bow (and not only the E’s). Two spring-loaded switches have been added under the plate (one for in and out phase control and one to put the pickups in series/parallel). The knobs have been replaced by push-pulls for coil tapping, or to play the 4 coils in parallel. The original tuners have been replaced. serial #: 91703
Vox 12-String: played on Thank You (studio version).
Gibson “Black Beauty” Les Paul: Jimmy used it a lot with the Yardbirds, and during the ‘70 tour. It was equipped with a Bigsby vibrato arm. (I didn’t hear him using it much, though). It was stolen during the ‘70 tour, in April, while going to Canada. Jimmy issued an ad in Rolling Stone, but he never got it back. serial #: 06130 If you happen to get hands on this axe, please be nice and give it back to Jimmy.
Harmony Sovereign (acoustic) : played on Led Zeppelin III and on tour in 1970.
Gretsch Cutaway (12-String acoustic): used on tour in ‘70.
1971 Martin D28 (acoustic): played in the studio and on tour after 1970.
Rickenbacker (12-string): used on stage in 1971.
Gibson SG doubleneck: Twelve/six string doubleneck guitar, both fitted with two humbuckers. Jimmy played it on stage for Stairway to Heaven, Tangerine, The Rain Song, and The Song Remains The Same and in the studio for Carouselambra. serial # 911117
Gibson ‘73 Les Paul Std (resprayed cherry red): it’s seen in The Song Remains The Same. Fitted with a Parsons/White B-Bender.
Danelectro (‘59 DC body): It was made from the best parts of 2 Danelectros, and fitted with a Badass bridge. Used on stage for Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, White Summer/Black Mountain Side, In My Time Of Dying, and often for Kashmir (especially after ‘77).
‘59 Fender telecaster (botswana brown): first appeared on stage in 1977. Nicknamed “The Brown Bomber”. Used on Hot Dog and All My Love during the final tour. It is actually the body of a ‘59 Telecaster with the neck of his ‘58 Telecaster, which was ruined by a “friend” who repainted it (without asking Page). -Thanks to Chef Zeppelin for the info!
‘60 Fender Stratocaster (Lake Placid Blue): first used in ‘79 on stage, especially for In the Evening.
Gibson RD Artist: used at Knebworth for Misty Mountain Hop.
Gibson SG: he seldom used it, during the ‘80 tour.
‘66 Fender Stratocaster (Cream): played for All My Love, during the ‘80 European tour

This is a brief list of Jimmy Page’s effects, please comment on anything I missed.

A Distorted Blast from the Past

The FZ-5 is a modern pedal built for the modern guitarist, but the sounds you can get from the FZ-5 are pure retro. Looking back at the glorious rock sounds of the ’60s and ’70s, the FZ-5 recreates its vintage fuzz through BOSS state-of-the-art COSM technology. Recall the fuzz-filled flavors of classic pedals, such as the Maestro FZ-1A, Fuzz Face and Octavia pedals, and kick ’em into overdrive with the FZ-5’s Boost knob. BOSS’ proprietary COSM® technology allows guitar players to recreate classic fuzz BOOST control for more aggressive tone. The FZ-5 is the perfect weapon for players wanting to beef up their rigs with classic retro fuzz artillery.

The folks behind Guitar Hero just shared, a few minutes ago, some details a new game they’re working on called Rock Band, scheduled for release this holiday season.

The best-selling Guitar Hero games have let players tap in to their rockstar fantasies while banging away on a plastic guitar controller to cover versions of modern and classic rock songs.

Guitar Hero 2 let friends play together cooperatively in their living rooms– as players take lead or rhythm guitar parts in songs like “Message in a Bottle” by The Police. Rock Band is aiming to bring the “co-op” play concept to a new level by bringing a singer and a drummer into the mix, says developer Harmonix. What’s more, the whole “band” will be able to get together and jam online– so that nobody has an excuse for being late to practice. The game is being developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The company didn’t announce any songs that will be included with the game, but said that Rock Band will include original recordings, not the cover versions of songs mostly used in the previous Guitar Hero games.

Harmonix chief executive and co-founder Alex Rigopulos said the game will include “classic rock to modern rock…punk to metal to southern rock.” Rigopulos said the company is workng with “huge” artists “that have previously been untouchable in the world of video games.”

In a conference call that just ended, executives from EMI Music Publishing and Warner/Chappell Music were on hand to confirm that they are providing the company with access to their catalogs for use in the Rock Band. EMI Music, Hollywood Records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group’s Universal Music Enterprises and Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment have all agreed to let Harmonix use master recordings.

“We don’t just see this as a game,” said Rigopulos. “We see this as a platform, a new way for people to experience the music they love”

The first version of Guitar Hero available for the Xbox 360 goes on sale tomorrow. In a promotional event for the Xbox 360 version, the GH2 player with the highest score on the Kiss song “Strutter,” one of the tracks in the game, will get to jam out with Kiss singer Gene Simmons at a Virgin Megastore in New York City next week (not a joke).

Will there ever be another Jimmy Page? Has there ever been a guitar solo like Jimmy Page Stairway To Heaven?I doubt it…enjoy the video, this is by far my favorite and one of the best guitar solos ever.

In one of the most anticipated
events in electric guitar history, Eddie Van Halen and the master builders of the Fender Custom Shop have teamed up to introduce EVH® brand guitars, amps and musical products, beginning with a painstaking recreation of one of the most recognized guitars in the world: the red-black-and-white striped “Frankenstein™” guitar played by Eddie throughout his remarkable career!

The video clip seen here was used to introduce Ed to the stage at January 2007’s Fender Frontline Live event in Anaheim.

It is not very difficult to replicate the unique sound of Slash,. basically all you need is a Gibson Les Paul plugged into a Marshall tube amp. Slash’s most relevant equipment: Guitars:
I’m not going to list them all – they’re over 90! – but he mainly uses a Gibson Les Paul Standard, Gibson Les Paul Slash Signature Model (a Custom Shop Les Paul model with Slash image carved into top, cranberry finish and a coffin case that was produced in 1997 in a limited run of only 50!), BC Rich Mockingbird SL (the Slash Model), Gibson SG Double neck, Guild Crossroads Double Neck (designed by Slash) and a Travis Bean electric (for slide guitar). His acoustic guitars are mainly Guild Jumbo design guitars.

Most of his electric guitars have Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups which are low output pickups.

Effects:
The only effects Slash uses are a Dunlop DCR-ISR Crybaby Rack, Dunlop Heil Talk Box, Boss DD-5 Digital Delay and a Boss GE-7 Equalizer (to boost his amplifier volume in the solos when playing live).

Slash uses Ernie Ball strings RPS 11 set and he likes to play with heavy picks (he favors the Jim Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm picks)

In conjunction with Eric Clapton, DigiTech has helped recreate some of his most famous tones in the DigiTech Crossroads Artist Series pedal by applying their new Production Modeling technology. This revolutionary technology was designed to help reproduce the studio and live sounds and effects of an artist as heard on their recordings. This includes modeling the speaker cabinets, microphones with their placement, pre/post effects, and the recording engineer’s magic all in one pedal.
The Crossroads Artist Series pedal was conceived in conjunction with Eric Clapton and his long-time guitar tech Lee Dickson. Crossroads models seven Clapton signature tones. From songs like “Badge” with its swirling rotary speaker, to “Layla” (Unplugged) with its intimate acoustic tone, and of course, “Sunshine of Your Love” which features Eric’s signature “woman tone”, Crossroads spans 30 years of Clapton culture and tone.
New DigiTech Production Modeling technology accurately models seven signature Eric Clapton tones
Eric’s legendary Sunshine of Your Love “woman tone”
Raw “Crossroads” blues captured live
Embracing stereo spectrum of a swirling rotary speaker
The acoustic intimacy of “Layla” Unplugged
The enduring warmth of “Reptile”

I’m more of a tradionalist when it comes to guitars, I like the classic styles of the Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters aswell as the Gibson Les Pauls.

My 12 year old son on the other hand loves the style of the B.C. Rich Guitars, I have tried to convince him that the fenders and gibson les pual guitars are the way to go and got know where with him. But, who am I to agrue with him? He loves music and loves playing guitar so shame on me. This kid has self taught himself to play the guitar, he can listen to a riff or any solo and within minutes he can play it almost perfectly, I wish I had his talent!
He has earned a new guitar and of course I was pushing him towards the fenders and the gibsons, and he just insists on the b.c. rich. So, not knowing much about these guitars the search began. We have decided on the Exotic Classic MockingBird, I just wanted to share some technical info on this guitar, after playing it for the first time in the guitar shop…wow….its a really nice guitar.
